Russia launched a major rocket attack on Ukraine on Thursday morning. The military leadership in Kiev reports “more than 15” Russian cruise missiles have been fired at the Ukrainian capital, although they are all intercepted. Other cities have also been attacked. At least eleven deaths have been counted so far. Several were also injured.
In Ukraine, at least 11 people were killed in Russian missile and drone strikes on Thursday, according to authorities in Kiev. Eleven others were injured, a civil defense spokesman said.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force spokesman, Ukrainian territory was targeted by “more than 30 Russian missiles” in total. The residents of other cities were also asked to take cover, and air raid alarms went off throughout the country.
Power cuts were also introduced as a precaution in Kiev and in the regions of Odessa and Dnepropetrovsk, the energy company DTEK said. “This is a preventive measure that will prevent major damage to the electricity infrastructure if the enemy’s missiles reach their target,” it said.
On Thursday night, the Russian army also sent 24 drones at targets in Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, they were all destroyed as well.
The attacks follow the West’s pledge to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks and M1 Abram tanks. Zelensky had asked for about 300, in the end he gets about a hundred. But it could be months before they can be deployed.
