The landslide count in Casamicciola has reached seven dead, with five more people missing, Naples prefect Claudio Palomba said on Sunday night.

The latest provisional balance includes the first victim found on Saturday, Elenora, 31, and six others found on Sunday: a brother and sister, ages 10 and 6, a couple with their baby born on November 4, and Nikolica, a 58 year old Bulgarian.

More than 200 civil protection and security forces were still searching for victims on Sunday, while hundreds of volunteers, knee-deep in mud, swept the streets of the resort town, which has a population of 8,000, in winter. They tried to clear access to houses and shops with shovels. Wrecks of cars and buses that were destroyed by the mudslide were scattered here and there.
