According to the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, which is close to Hezbollah, representatives of Egypt told the leadership of the Hamas group that the Egyptian side is ready to resume mediation in negotiations on the exchange of Palestinian prisoners for Israeli prisoners.
The publication, which received this information from sources in Hamas, notes that the Egyptian offer came less than a day after the group published a video of Israeli Avera Mengistu held in the Gaza Strip.
According to the publication, in the first stage, a deal will be carried out, which is already almost agreed upon. Hamas will release Mengistu and another Israeli, Hisham al-Said, whom Al-Akbar calls soldiers, and will also provide information about Adar Goldin and Oron Shaul.
In response, Israel should release the prisoners released under the “Shalit deal” but re-arrested. Incarcerated women, minors, elderly and sick Palestinians will also be released.
The Egyptian side is waiting for the appointment of a new head of the Israeli negotiating group for the exchange of prisoners, who will replace Yaron Blum, who resigned in October 2022.
