The book of mourning on the occasion of the death of Serbian football legend Siniša Mihajlović was opened today in the Red Star Football Club Museum, and former players of that club also signed it.Siniša Mihajlović died yesterday in Rome at the age of 54, after a long battle with leukemia, and Ratomir Dujković, Jovan Aćimović and Stanislav Karasi also said goodbye to him today.

“We were both born in Borovo, we spent a period of our careers together, although I went to Crvena Zvezda earlier. However, we hung out, saw each other and all this hurts me a lot, knowing Sinisa’s whole family as well. Zvezda should start thinking how to mark Sinisa for all time, because he helped to make the biggest result in the club’s history,” said Dujković, the club reports.

Aćimović pointed out that “the best among us” left.

“The loss is certainly the greatest for Sinisa’s family, but everyone feels as if a part of us has been lost. He was always present as a man and a player, his spirit radiated in sports and will be remembered forever. I hope and believe that Sinisa’s memory will Mihajlović will remain engraved in us forever,” said Aćimović.

He stated that the example of Siniša Mihajlović should be a “guiding star” for everyone.

“Although life absolutely did not pamper him, he managed to win a magnificent career in a short period of time. There are many memorable moments in sports, such as the photo of Sinisa Mihajlović related to the big event at the Maracana. Football, in its essence, has joy and sadness. Both feelings when it comes to Siniša go beyond the average emotion that most players carry in themselves,” said Aćimović.

Stanislav Karasi stated that Mihajlović came to Zvezda as a “culprit”.

“While I was still in Borovo, I recommended him to come to Zvezda, but the first time it didn’t work out. After a few days, I heard from Kosanović, who was the coach of Vojvodina, and told him to go to Borovo, because a top football player grows there. He went there and brought him to Vojvodina,” said Karasi.

“The second time we managed to bring Miha to Zvezda… I’m glad that Miha came to a place where I always thought he could play. Not that he played, but he made an incredible career. Everything he did in Zvezda was fantastic. He is synonymous with trophies, he was the champion in Vojvodina, and then in Zvezda. The people loved him, and that is the most important thing in football,” he added.

The book of mourning in the Red Star Football Club Museum will be open today until 5:00 p.m.

The commemoration on the occasion of the death of Sinisa Mihajlović will be held tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. in the Media Center of the “Rajko Mitić” stadium.
